I got up to the greatest logical news this morning as far as Indian Cricket is concerned. I think Sachin declining the test captaincy is the best decision for Indian team to move forward. I’m not against Sachin becoming the captain of the test team even if his record as captain is not very impressive to put it mildly. Making Sachin captain is simply illogical for the plain fact that he is still playing one-day cricket. It will be a clash of personalities and how will Dhoni be able to mould the one-day team into his team with Sachin still around and being led by him in the test team. Neither would be able to make their imprint on the team, because I genuinely believe Sachin has more than 2 years of active cricket left in him. So, I feel Sachin should have either accepted both the one-day and test captaincy or none. Some teams like
My personal preference at the current scenario would be either Kumble or Laxman. Both have been spoken highly about their leadership abilities and especially Kumble coming for effusive praise from John Wright. If I remember John Wright’s exact words, it is like this, “It’s a pity that Kumble is not considered for captaincy in
Sanjay Manjrekar has also put a very valid point in his analysis that Sachin should have discussed with selectors regarding the choices if he declines to lead. And if they are going to give it to Dhoni if he says no, then Sachin should have led for at least six months. One would expect that kind of discussion in a professional set up, but knowing the BCCI administrators and the selectors, especially after the dropping of Dravid from the One-day team, who would like to do that is anybody’s guess. Sachin has done Indian cricket a big favor by declining the offer. I feel even if “the bunch of jokers”, as once referred infamously by a great Indian cricketer, do give the test captaincy to Dhoni that would be a better decision than splitting the captaincy with Sachin. Moreover I salute Sachin for his decision and at this stage of his career I expect more test innings like he produced in the last series and prove his critics like Ian Chappel that he is still playing for the right reasons.
PS: Ian Chappel is the best contemporary cricket critic according to me.

Good post dude..i agree with you 100% Sachin did a favor in declining the captaincy...and I hope Kumble gets selected as captain..though i think its going to be a difficult task for anyone to captain against aussies in their own homeland..also we need to beat Pak in both the test and ODI's convincingly before we head to down under....
hey sathya..nice blog mann..luks are you are very much upto date with cricket news ...esp cricinfo..I too read what Manjrekar said today...and feel kumble is the the better option..nice blog mann!! .. keep going :)
Excellent thought...i know satya personally, so i agree with all his points ...and these are my thoughts...
1. > I am glad that sachin stepped down from captaincy, i don't like him personally, specially after watching his last 2-3 years game, completely my personal view.
2. > I want to see kumble as captain, at least once in his short remaining span, but chances are thin as i saw in air (TV channels), chances of getting dhoni as captain is more. But wish he can make it....)-:
3.> As satya said, we should follow the policy for captain that Aussies are following, i am not for it, only because The Cric board in Aus are far better than India's, and they are less biased and more professional. Personal opinion again, so i afraid such system will work in India.
4.> Is the test team declared? And what are the chances of Lakshman getting in the team, so i think at this time thinking about Him to take the lead is not logical..whats say satya?
Amby
are bhai what abt dravid ? he has scored a double century today? does a player of Dravid's calibre need to prove his form and that too in a Ranji match...what a pathetic situation of Indian Cricket !!!
Thank you guys for your views.
For Praveen:
Yes we have to win the one-day series at least 4-1 and test series at least 2-1 or 2-0 against this Pakistan team to feel that we are progressing. It will be difficult for anybody in Australia, that's why an experienced guy should handle that, not Dhoni, it can shatter his confidence.
For Ambika:
I do not take Indian news channels seriously, because these same guys had reported that Dravid will be in the team for the one-dayers against Pak and some had even gone to the extent of declaring Sachin as the test captain.
Regarding Laxman, he will be definitely in the test team, don't worry about that.
Dbasish:
I'm absolutely for Dravid in one-day team, but the point of my this post was test captaincy not the team. I will try to put my views on the Dravid issue very soon.
